Illinois Casino License Hearing Begins Monday14 May 2004ILLINOIS – As reported by the Chicago Daily Herald: "Just who has final say over the state's 10th casino license will likely be decided Monday in a showdown in federal bankruptcy court that pits the Illinois Gaming Board against its own attorney, Attorney General Lisa Madigan. "Representatives of several parties told a bankruptcy judge Thursday they've reached a deal challenging Madigan's plan to block sale of the state's 10th and final casino license. "Madigan announced Tuesday she was nixing sale of the license - now held by the bankrupt Emerald Casino - to Isle of Capri, which plans to build in Rosemont. "…She plans to restart the revocation of Emerald's license, a process that was put on hold to see if a transfer deal could be worked out. "As the gaming board's attorney and the top law enforcement agency in the state, Madigan has maintained that authority over what happens to the license lies with her. "…Rosemont, Emerald and creditors argue that authority over whether to start license revocation proceedings lies solely with the gaming board. "The gaming board likely won't care. Chairman Elzie Higginbottom announced at the group's monthly meeting Thursday that he disagreed with Madigan and wants the deal to go through…" |
