Illinois AG Questions Casino License Decision

ILLINOIS – As reported by Reuters: "Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan on Tuesday called on the state gaming board to explain what she called the 'surprising' decision to choose Isle of Capri Casinos Inc. to build a casino near Chicago after a competitive auction.

"Madigan, who helped put back on track an auction of bankrupt Emerald Casino, Inc., said she wanted more information since the regulator's staff had recommended another bidder, there were concerns about the site, and a top Isle executive had been disciplined by the Illinois Gaming Board in the past.

"A spokeswoman on Tuesday said that Madigan wanted the board to hold a town meeting or press conference to explain its action.

" …'It is imperative that the IGB explain to the public in detail how it became comfortable with Rosemont as the location of the casino and Isle of Capri as the operator, in light of the concerns IGB members expressed through the Emerald (license) revocation proceeding and recent disclosures of prior disciplinary action against Isle of Capri principals,' Madigan said in a statement issued after the decision late on Monday…"
