Illinois AG Files to Stop Casino Review14 June 2004CHICAGO, Illinois – As reported by the Associated Press: "Attorney General Lisa Madigan has filed a lawsuit seeking to stop the Illinois Gaming Board from reviewing a plan that would clear the way for a new casino in Rosemont, saying the board has overstepped its authority. "The complaint, filed Friday in Cook County Circuit Court, said the board 'usurped the authority' of the attorney general by moving forward with portions of a reorganization plan for the bankrupt Emerald Casino Inc. that she opposes. "The Gaming Board has been preparing to evaluate a $518 million bid from Isle of Capri Casinos Inc. for Emerald's license. "…She also has criticized the board's selection of a casino plan for Rosemont, saying the suburb might have ties to organized crime. "…Madigan argues in the lawsuit that if the board is allowed to move forward with its plans 'irreparable harm will result to the exclusive authority' of the attorney general's office. "The lawsuit seeks a court order preventing the board from conducting a review of Isle of Capri's bid and interfering with the attorney general's attempts to revoke the Emerald license…" |
