iGaming Ontario’s Q1 2023 market performance report

19 July 2023

(PRESS RELEASE) -- This iGaming Ontario market performance report covers the first quarter of the 2023-24 fiscal year (1 April through 30 June 2023) and includes information on all operators with gaming websites with trading activity during that period. This report also provides segmentation information about the first full year of market operations (4 April 2022 through 31 March 2023).

- Total wagers of $14.0 billion does not include promotional wagers (bonuses).
- Total gaming revenue of $545 million is total cash wagers, including rake fees, tournament fees and other fees, across all Operators from 1 April to 30 June 2023 minus player winnings derived from cash wagers and does not take into account operating costs or other liabilities.
- The count of Operators (46) and gaming websites (71) includes all Operators and gaming websites with trades that occurred between 1 April and 30 June 2023. See the up-to-date list of Operators and gaming sites.
- About 920K player accounts were active in Q1. Active player accounts are accounts with cash and/or promotional wagering activity during the time period and do not represent unique players as individuals may have accounts with multiple Operators.
- Average monthly spend per active player account was $197 in Q1.
- In Q1, casino games, including slots, live and computer-based table games and peer-to-peer bingo, accounted for nearly $11.6B (83%) of total wagers and $392M (72%) of gaming revenue.
- Betting, including on sports, esports as well as proposition and novelty bets, accounted for $2B (14%) of total wagers and $138M (25%) of gaming revenue.
- Peer to peer (P2P) poker accounted for $350M (3%) of total wagers and $15M (3%) of gaming revenue.

- Last year, casino games, including slots, live and computer-based table games as well as peer-to-peer bingo, accounted for nearly $28B (78%) of total wagers and $940M (67%) of gaming revenue.
- Betting, including traditional sports, esports, proposition and novelty bets accounted for $7B (20%) of total wagers and $433M (31%) of gaming revenue last year.
- P2P poker accounted for $992M (3%) of total wagers and $40M (3%) of gaming revenue last year.
