Idaho Officials Seize Bookmaker's Assets

25 May 2004

IDAHO – As reported by the Des Moines Register: "A Norwalk man will keep his house but forfeit nearly everything else under an agreement with the authorities who want to put him in prison for bookmaking.

"Warren County court papers say Bob Derryberry, 61, has agreed with state and county officials to surrender more than $475,000 in cash and securities taken in raids on his home and safety deposit boxes last year.

"…Court papers that made the deal final were filed this month, more than 16 months after state gaming agents and local police raided what they alleged to be a multimillion-dollar sports betting ring run from Derryberry's home.

"Derryberry, the only remaining defendant in a case that resulted in 11 arrests, faces a June 21 trial on charges of illegal gambling, money laundering and ongoing criminal conduct. He faces up to 45 years in prison if convicted."
