Hundreds Line Up for Horseshoe Casino Jobs

LOUISIANA – As reported by the Shreveport Times: "Upbeat disco and pop music played Tuesday morning in the dimly lighted Horseshoe Riverdome, where job hunters tried to look their brightest.

"More than 200 jobs -- from managers to cashiers to poker dealers -- were up for grabs from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and a line of hopefuls snaked around the building when officials opened the doors. About 1,500 had applied toward the end of the day.

"…The fair was to fill positions for Horseshoe Casino and the racetrack, both Harrah's properties. Most positions were open as a result of turnover, but 50 to 60 were for the casino's upcoming 11-table poker room, to open in late March. The company is also hiring seasonal workers for the racing season that begins April 29.

"Applicants were sitting and standing, filling out applications and waiting for their names to be called for one-on-one interviews beyond a black partition that split the Riverdome. Some went on to take computer personality tests, and if all went well, could go straight from the property to a drug test. Those seeking positions that deal with equipment or money had to wait for extensive background checks to receive a Louisiana state gaming license…"
