Huge Ferris Wheel Pitched for County Land on Las Vegas Strip23 April 2001LAS VEGAS, Nevada -- A group of investors has proposed constructing the world's largest ferris wheel on a vacant land parcel adjacent to the Aladdin, Clark County officials said. Bobby Shelton, spokesman for the Clark County Public Works Department, said the investors "have expressed interest in the county's parcel, but have made no formal offer at this point in time." Part of the vacant parcel at Harmon Avenue and the Strip would be used for the widening of Harmon, while the remainder could be sold at auction or swapped for land elsewhere in the Las Vegas area. The "Voyager" project, conceived by Outland Development LLC, would be a 475-foot-high ferris wheel with 36 completely enclosed carriage cars, each capable of holding up to 16 passengers. Gregg Giuffria, president and chief executive of Outland, said this morning he could not comment on speculation that the Voyager would be built at the Harmon site, saying a press release would be issued in mid-May. |
