Hon-Dah Casino to suspend operations after positive COVID cases

18 October 2020

(PRESS RELEASE) -- Today, the Hon-Dah Resort Casino & Conference Center will temporarily suspend its gaming operations at 10 p.m. Hon-Dah Hotel will close at check-out time tomorrow, 19 October. This suspension of business comes as a result of two employees testing positive for COVID-19 and the staffing shortage caused by other employees entering mandatory self-quarantine. Earlier this week, all casino employees underwent testing for the virus, or will soon do so.

The White Mountain Apache Tribe's public health regulations require and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines recommend that persons exposed to know positive cases self-quarantine for 14 days to ensure that, if infected, they do not further spread the virus.

While only two employees have tested positive for COVID-19, every employee who was in contact with those positive employees must self-quarantine, regardless of their test results. This has stretched casino staffing levels. Brent Kurth, Hon-Dah Casino General Manager stated, "We are acting swiftly to protect the health, safety and welfare of our employees and our customers. At Hon-Dah, we put our people and our community's needs first."

No customer or guest cases have been identified, but one of the positive staff members was in contact with employees who serve the public. If you or a loved one experience COVID-like symptoms, you are encouraged to follow CDC treatment and quarantine guidelines.

Hon-Dah casino management anticipates running operations once public health officials and casino management determine that doing so is safe and poses no threat to employees and guests.
