Hollywood Casino raises money for relief fund

21 August 2008

BAY ST. LOUIS, Mississippi -- (PRESS RELEASE) -– Hollywood Casino Bay St. Louis cast members raised $3,817.00 in a silent auction held over the weekend for their Hollywood Cast Member Relief Fund (HCMRF). Area businesses and generous cast members donated over 25 items and services to be auctioned off to the highest bidders.

"Perhaps the most coveted item was 'a day of fishing with fellow cast member Bob Davidge' with over 17 bids ending at 12 Noon on Monday, August 18, 2008," said Leslie Patrick, Senior Director of Human Resources.

"I plan on making the fishing trip with my husband as our honeymoon gift for each other. I was really excited to have the opportunity to bid on it because we never got to take a fishing trip as planned during our honeymoon, so this is great," said Pam Ellis of table games and the highest bidder for the fishing trip.

The non-profit agency is grateful to all contributors including Dr. Theresa Jones who donated a Zoom dental whitening treatment, Coca-Cola bottling Company for their summer refreshment package, and gift baskets and certificates provided by Imagine That in Bay St. Louis, Hooter's restaurant in Gulfport and Hollywood Casino Resort in Tuscany.

Cast members also bid on a variety of things designed and offered by fellow employees and Hollywood including jewelry designed by Lynn Boswell, gift baskets by Melissa Key, special parking privileges, desktop computers, a fitness center membership, gift certificates from the Bridges Golf Club, Tuscany Steaks and Seafood, and handcrafted chimes by Rebecca Almon.

"We're very pleased with the extraordinary support and level of participation we get from both our employees and our vendors," said Director of Human Resources Leslie Patrick.

Hollywood Casino employees established a Section 501b (3) non profit organization called Hollywood Cast Member Relief Fund (HCMRF) to raise funding for helping co-workers facing financial hardship for a variety of reasons such as terminal illnesses, devastating home fires, and life altering disabilities.

Hollywood Casino cast members also actively participate in numerous outside non-profit fundraising and volunteer efforts year round including the Hancock Food Pantry, United Way, the Muscular Dystrophy Association, Camp Civitan, March of Dimes and more.
