Hollywood Casino hosts PGA event27 March 2008BAY ST. LOUIS, Mississippi -- (PRESS RELEASE) -– The Bridges Golf Club at Hollywood Casino hosted the PGA Tour's Zurich Classic Open Qualifier Monday. The format for this event was an 18-hole stroke play event with the top four qualifiers advancing to the 2008 Zurich Classic of New Orleans being March 27- 30 at TPC Louisiana. There were 80 players, top ranked professionals, and amateurs competing for only four coveted spots. Jeff Gove, 3-time Nationwide Tour Champion from San Marcos, California, fired a new course record of 67 to claim the first exemption. Bubba Dickerson, former U.S. Amateur Champion, shot a 69 to take the second spot. Robert Gamez, most known for holing a 7-iron shot from 176 yards for eagle-2 on 72nd hole of Nestle Invitational for one-stroke victory over Greg Norman, took the third exemption. Garrett Willis, made first TOUR start a winning one defeating Kevin Sutherland by one stroke at Touchstone Energy Tucson Open in 2001. He captured the fourth spot in a playoff over a list of other tour notables that fired rounds of 2 under par such as David Morland, Omar Uresti, Derek Gillespie, Greg Chalmers, and Matt Bettencourt. The Bridges Golf Club at Hollywood Casino is the state's only Arnold Palmer Signature Golf Course ranked among the top ten courses in the state and Top 40 casino courses in the country by Golf Digest magazine. The Bridges is the first resort golf course in the world to be granted the Audubon Silver Signature Status by Audubon International. The Bridges Golf Club, The Bridges Club House Grill and the award-winning Pro Shop are open seasonally Wednesday through Monday from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and closed Tuesday. Hollywood Casino Bay St. Louis frequently offers Internet specials on their website when players opt-in to the casino's mailing list. Hotel and golf packages are also available with generous incentive packages for organizers. |
