Hollywood Bets on Public Support28 September 2005FLORIDA – As reported by the Florida Sun-Sentinel: "The city is betting that the power of the people can help it win a slice of gambling profits that may eventually start flowing into Broward County. "This week, the city mailed about 20,000 letters to residents requesting they send postage-paid postcards to Gov. Jeb Bush, asking him to ensure Hollywood gets 'its fair share' of slots revenue. "None of the four pari-mutuel sites where voters approved slot machines in March are in Hollywood, but three are next door -- two in Hallandale Beach and one in Dania Beach. "… Since the state Legislature will have to draft rules governing slots in Broward County, and since Gov. Jeb Bush is working with the Seminoles --another Hollywood neighbor -- on new rules for their casinos, Mayor Mara Giulianti said the city decided the governor should be reminded how Hollywood will be affected…" |
