Ho-Chunks Shows Commitment to Lynnwood30 May 2005LYNNWOOD, Illinois – As reported by the Daily Southtown: "When the lights come up on Lynwood on Tuesday night at the Ho-Chunk Sports and Expo Center, boxers will enter the ring to pummel their way to a prizefight championship. "…The Ho-Chunks are seeking federal approval to build an entertainment complex, casino, hotel, water park and up to 1 million-square-feet in retail in the village of 7,400 people. "But the $850 million plan has met opposition from people who don't want gambling in town and others who fear the development will alter the nature of their small community. "…Proponents of the project say Tuesday's fight, combined with the money the Ho-Chunk Nation already has pumped into the former Lynwood Soccer Complex, shows the tribe is in Lynwood for the long haul, regardless of whether a casino permit is ever granted. "…The Ho-Chunk Nation has owned the 120,000-square-foot building for nine months. "…The tribe has spent $200,000 to add lights to the ballfields at the complex. The complex itself would be converted into a casino if the tribe wins permission…" |
