Ho-Chunk stand confuses other tribes1 June 2007WISCONSIN -- As reported by the Beloit Daily News: "Although the Ho-Chunk band has invested thousands of dollars in commercials claiming the Beloit Casino Complex is "wrong for Beloit," officials with the St. Croix and Bad River bands of the Chippewa Tribe say the Ho-Chunk apparently didn't feel that way about six months ago. "Instead, representatives from the Ho-Chunk wanted in on the deal, Bad River Band Chairman Eugene Big Boy confirmed during a recent tribal leadership meeting in South Beloit. "Now the Ho-Chunk's opposition toward the project has left the tribal leader perplexed "...Ho-Chunk representatives approached the St. Croix and Bad River bands last December and requested to become a third partner in the casino project. Besides offering to pay a third of what the councils had already spent on the project, the Ho-Chunk assured the bands they would receive approval for the casino if they agreed to the partnership, Beloit Casino spokesman Joe Hunt said..." |
