Ho-Chunk Proceeds with Casino in Chicago Suburb

ILLINOIS – As reported by the Chicago Sun-Times: "An Indian nation is pushing forward with plans to develop a casino and entertainment complex in south suburban Lynwood.

"The Ho-Chunk Nation, which announced its plan in May, has made offers to buy 300 of the 423 acres it wants in the town near the Indiana border.

"…U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. (D-Ill.) says he thinks the Ho-Chunk development and its estimated 5,000 jobs would help Chicago's south suburbs. He plans to introduce a bill in Congress to create a land trust -- similar to a reservation -- for the development.

"…Opponents contend that the Ho-Chunk development would be accompanied by increased crime and traffic congestion…"
