Ho-Chunk May Drop Casino from Project22 July 2004LYNWOOD, Indiana – As reported by the Northwest Indiana Times: "Developers hope to get congressional approval by October for a massive entertainment complex here, but believe summer 2005 is more likely. "If Congress grants a tribal trust for 432 acres on the village's northeastern edge, the Ho-Chunk Nation may build the complex with or without a casino. "…Lynwood and Ho-Chunk leaders attempted to dispel myths the complex would not pay taxes or be required to abide by state or federal laws because it enjoys sovereignty. "…The Ho-Chunk Nation hopes to build on a site bordered by Glenwood-Lansing Road, Stony Island Avenue, Glenwood-Dyer Road and portions of Torrence Avenue. "The complex would include a casino, cultural center and museum, hotel and spa, water park, performing arts center, movie theater, restaurants, baseball and softball fields, and other meeting space. "…Ho-Chunk Nation initially agreed to commit about $87 million a year, or 25 percent of its gaming revenue, to public use…" |
