Ho-Chunk Buys More Land11 April 2005ILLINOIS – As reported by the Daily Southtown: "The Ho-Chunk Nation recently closed on nearly 60 more acres in Lynwood. "And taking into account the incumbent, pro-casino slate's unanimous re-election to village office on Tuesday, the Native American tribe is happy with the prospects of completing its proposed economic development project. "…The Wisconsin-based Ho-Chunk Nation now owns about 280 acres near Glenwood-Dyer Road and Stony Island Avenue in Lynwood. "The land acquisition gives the tribe enough property to submit an application to the U.S. Department of the Interior to place the land into a federal trust. "…When the land is placed in trust, the tribe can lobby the governor for a casino. "The Ho-Chunk Nation intends to submit the application within the next few weeks. The approval process takes two to five years, but it is more advantageous at this point than seeking congressional approval, Davis said…" |
