High Roller Loses Millions at Crown Casino

AUSTRALIA – As reported by the Australian: "One of Crown casino's richest high-rollers has blown a staggering $25 million (US$18.15 million) in a two-year losing streak in Melbourne.

"Singapore tycoon Thomas Tay has lost the fortune betting up to $100,000 a hand on big-stakes baccarat tables.

"…A confidential Mahogany Room report obtained by the Herald Sun details the September assault, which included six Asian group trips known as junkets.

"Each of the millionaire gamblers must have turned over $500,000 to qualify for special turnover privileges, which gives them a rebate on losses.

"…Figures seen by the Herald Sun reveal he lost $14 million in 2002-03 and $11 million in the past year. His average bet was $30,000.

"Since February 2001, he has made more than 25 visits to Melbourne - almost always staying in his favourite five-star villa at the top of the Crown Towers Hotel…"
