Hearings set for Cayuga casino proposal11 June 2007NEW YORK -- As reported by the Syracuse Post-Standard: "At separate meetings this week, residents in Cayuga and Seneca counties will get their first public opportunities to voice their concerns about a proposed casino deal for the Cayuga Indian Nation. "Tuesday, Seneca County residents can tell their county lawmakers how they feel about the potentially divisive proposed settlement. The session will run from 7 to 8 p.m. at the county office building in Waterloo. "... Cayuga County residents can comment from 7:40 to 9:10 p.m. Wednesday after lawyer Brian Laudadio outlines the proposed agreement to county lawmakers at the pavilion at Emerson Park on Owasco Lake, starting at 6 p.m. "...For a Las Vegas-style casino at a state site to be determined, the Cayugas have agreed to cap at 10,000 acres the amount of land they would take off the tax rolls in both counties. They would also give up to $15.3 million a year in casino revenues to both counties and dole out $120 million a year to the state, under the proposed settlement..." |
