Harrison County votes on casino tax changes

INDIANA – As reported by the Louisville Courier-Journal: "The Harrison County Council is expected to vote Monday night on whether to reduce the amount of casino tax revenues that the county sends to neighboring Crawford County.

"Councilman Alvin Brown of Palmyra had indicated at a meeting last month that he intended to lead an effort to cut Crawford's share of Harrison's $22 million in Caesars casino tax revenues from 8 percent to 6 percent. The money would be divided instead between Floyd and Washington counties.

"The reason, Brown said, was that Crawford soon would begin receiving an estimated $700,000 in tax receipts from the new French Lick casino. Also, Floyd and Washington were experiencing increased traffic from the French Lick operation and would need to provide additional police patrols, he said…"
