Harrah's Pledges $75,000 to Studies

WEST WARWICK, Rhode Island – As reported by the Providence Journal: "Harrah's Entertainment this week pledged to give the town $75,000 more, in a lump sum, to pay for various casino-impact studies and related legal services.

"The payment would bring to $150,000 the amount the Las Vegas-based casino developer has paid the town for the studies since last March.

"Harrah's is seeking state approval to build a $500-million resort casino in the town's business park, in partnership with the Narragansett Indian Tribe.

"…The studies are meant to help the town make an informed decision about whether to approve the casino plans.

"Town Manager Wolfgang Bauer recently asked Harrah's to pay the rest of the cash up front, rather than in quarterly payments, so that the town can commission the studies as soon as possible…"
