Harrah's North Kansas City Casino loses top spot

KANSAS CITY, Missouri -- As reported by the Kansas City Star: "For the first time, Harrah's North Kansas City Casino and Hotel is not ranked first or second in Kansas City's gambling market.

"July market-share revenues of $16.48 million at the Argosy Casino Hotel & Spa in Riverside inched past Harrah's July take of $16.41 million and knocked the North Kansas City gambling parlor out of the No. 2 spot it had held since October 2003. That was the month Ameristar Kansas City Casino and Hotel knocked Harrah's out of the No. 1 spot it had held since the place opened in 1994.

"...Don't look for Harrah's to declare a marketing war to regain its edge.

"Harrah's spokeswoman Carol Henry said Monday casino executives are 'not at all' in panic mode, nor are they considering any sudden new player giveaways to drive more foot traffic through the casino.

"...According to The Kansas City Star's analysis of figures released Monday by the Missouri Gaming Commission, Ameristar retained the No. 1 market-share spot with its $22.37 million July..."
