Harrah's Introduces 'Five-Spot' Blackjack Tables

Blackjack tables traditionally have six or seven positions for bettors. All Harrah's tables now have just five positions, "a coveted feature for serious blackjack players."

"The new blackjack tables will give players more room to relax so they can focus on their game," said Gary Selesner, assistant general manager of Harrah's.

Still, there are skeptics as to whether the new tables will attract players.

"You can usually find tables where there's fewer (than six) people," said Anthony Curtis, publisher of the Las Vegas Advisor newsletter. "I don't think anyone will say, 'Let's go to Harrah's because they have five seat (tables).' I don't see how it will do anything from a marketing point of view."

Since the house has an edge in all games, a faster game means the player loses more money, Curtis said.

"The player's best chance is to limit his exposure, so that person should play at a crowded table," Curtis said.
