Harrah's Fined for Ad Faux Pas

MISSOURI – As reported by the Kansas City Star: "The Missouri Gaming Commission on Wednesday fined Harrah's North Kansas City Casino and Hotel $25,000 for mailing promotional material to compulsive gamblers.

"Bill Keena, Harrah's general manger, said the company had taken corrective action and would pay the fines without an appeal.

"…At least six persons on Missouri's self-exclusion list received the material in May and complained to the commission.

"The estimated 7,000 people enrolled in Missouri's Voluntary Exclusion Program are legally barred from the state's casinos, under threat of arrest for trespassing, and are to be removed from casino mailing lists.

"…The commission noted that Harrah's internal investigation of the incident determined that as many as 260 persons on the exclusion list could have received the promotional mailing.

"…The commission also recommended Wednesday that Harrah's be fined an additional $15,000 for staging another promotion without notifying the commission in advance, as required…"
