Harrah's Approved for New Orleans Hotel21 November 2003NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana – As reported by the Associated Press: "After agreeing to preserve the facades of two rundown 19th century buildings, Harrah's New Orleans Casino has won city approval to build a 27-story hotel next to its downtown gambling hall. "A unanimous vote by the City Council on Thursday clears the way for construction of the $100 million project to begin in mid-2004. The 450-room hotel is scheduled to open in mid-2006. "…Under the 1992 law that legalized the casino, Harrah's could not have its own hotel. "…The main issue Thursday was Harrah's request to demolish five small 19th century buildings to make room for the hotel. "…Harrah's agreed to incorporate the facades of two of the historic three-story buildings. The casino also will re-create the building that once stood at the site of a parking lot…" |
