Guyana's first casino opens

GEORGETOWN, Guyana -- Guyana's first in-house casino opened Friday night at The Princess Hotel, Caribbean Net News reported.

Guyana's President has expressed discontent that due to the Gambling Prevention Amendment Act (2007), Guyanese are not be permitted to gamble at the casino, the report said.

The President also said the number of casinos will be limited and they'll be carefully monitored, according to Caribbean Net News.

The new casino employs 140 Guyanese and offers 300 slot machines, the Caribbean Net News report said.
