Gurnee Mayor Pressed for Position on Casino24 June 2005ILLINOIS – As reported by the Illinois Daily Herald: "Gurnee Mayor Kristina Kovarik says Waukegan has a right to pursue a casino and won't fight it, but that doesn't mean she supports gambling close to her village's border. "Kovarik has taken heat at the last two village board meetings about her lack of desire to fight a casino license Waukegan has wanted for the former Lakehurst Mall site, just east of the Tri-State Tollway and Route 120. "Some of Kovarik's opponents say she's on the political fence about the issue. "…Gurnee residents from the Providence Village and Providence Oaks subdivisions confronted Kovarik about her casino stance during Monday's village board meeting. Those subdivisions are about a mile from where Waukegan wants the casino. "Kovarik said she told a City Club audience in Waukegan last month that she'd want officials there to work with her if a casino license ever is awarded. Her remarks at the City Club gathering are what sparked the recent concern about her casino position…" |
