Gulf Coast casinos to close Sunday

2 September 2008

MISSISSIPPI AND LOUISIANA -- The Mississippi Gaming Commission has ordered that all casinos along the Gulf Coast in the cities of Biloxi and Gulfport be closed by 3 p.m. central time on Sunday.

MGM Mirage spokesman Alan Feldman said the company’s Beau Rivage resort in Biloxi would comply with the order.

Hurricane Katrina, in 2005, destroyed more than a dozen casinos in Mississippi. Beau Rivage, the state’s largest hotel-casino, was closed for a year after the storm.

Mississippi Gaming Commissioner Larry Gregory said all patrons will be off the casino floors by 7 a.m. and eight hours later, at 3 p.m., the casinos will be on a complete lockdown.
