GSA Simplifies Patent Process

18 August 2005

LAS VEGAS – (PRESS RELEASE) -- Effective immediately, the Gaming Standards Association (GSA) has simplified and updated its patent (Intellectual Property) policy in an effort to bring it in line with those of other global standard-setting bodies. The policy was reviewed and updated after GSA attended a recent international roundtable of standard-setting organizations that focused on Intellectual Property policies.

GSA President Peter DeRaedt said, "Our Board of Directors is constantly reviewing our policies to ensure that they meet all requirements for a standards body and that they do not place an undue burden on our members. We believe that our new patent policy will benefit the industry, and provide a clearer understanding to members of their disclosure responsibilities as well as providing clarity regarding our standards-setting efforts."

Among the simplifications made to GSA's policy are: removal of the need to disclose pending applications; requesting disclosure only at the end of the standards-setting process; and a general updating of the policy.
