Group opposes casino expansion24 November 2006DEHESA, California – As reported by the San Diego Union-Tribune: "A community group is circulating a petition opposing legislative approval of the Sycuan Indian band's amended gambling compact, which would allow the East County tribe to open a second casino with up to 3,000 slots. "Upset with petitioners' claims, the tribe has launched a rebuttal campaign, including a mass mailing this week to about 7,000 homes in Dehesa, Crest and Harbison Canyon. "Leaders of the Dehesa Valley Community Council say they began their drive about two weeks ago because Sycuan's new compact would allow it to more than double its slot inventory from 2,000 to 5,000 machines. It also would allow Sycuan to build a second casino on 1,600 acres of adjacent land, including the tribal golf resort formerly known as Singing Hills…" |
