Green Belt Halts Plans at UK Racecourse

UK -- As reported by the (UK) Express: ``Plans for a casino within Wolverhampton's racecourse have been put on hold - because the site falls within the Green Belt.

``The Government has now formally called in the application for a further detailed investigation.

``The decision means that a local public inquiry into the Dunstall Park site, the scheme and the application will now have to be held.

``It is a setback for racecourse owners Arena Leisure, who have plans to develop an American-style Racino at Dunstall Park as part of their £12 million upgrade of the site.

``…However, they are far from ditching the scheme and are hopeful that the proposed revisions to Wolverhampton Council's five-year Unitary Development Plan, which could be completed by the end of this year, will remove the racecourse from the Green Belt…"
