Greektown Property Vote Delayed

DETROIT, Michigan – As reported by the Detroit News: "The Detroit City Council postponed a vote Wednesday on whether to sell Greektown Casino a municipal garage that would give the casino room to build its $300 million permanent facility.

"The council wants time to gather more information about the purchase and now plans to address the issue Friday morning. It is seeking clarification from the city on some legal issues and wants a more specific breakdown of what is included in the proposed $32 million deal.

"Greektown Casino wants to tear down the municipal parking structure -- on Monroe Street at St. Antoine -- to build a 13-story, 3,100-car parking garage topped by a 20-22 story, 400-room hotel. The facility would be connected to the gaming facility by an indoor, above-ground moving sidewalk.

"…The Detroit Mayor's office is supporting the sale of the municipal garage to the casino for $32 million. The structure is appraised at $11 million and the land for another $6 million…"
