Grand National up against animal charity

9 April 2012

AINTREE, England -- A British animal rights charity is hounding the Grand National and calling for a boycott of the big event next weekend, The Guardian reported.

The charity Animal Aid is objecting to the race on the basis of recent horse fatalities on racetracks, the report said.

There were 23 horse deaths during March, The Guardian said.

The manager of Aintree, however, defended the Grand National saying that while there was some risk, that changes had been made to fences and horse safety is a priority, The Guardian report said.
