Governor Pulls Special Session Off Table

11 January 2005

Las Vegas Sun

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- A special legislative session tackling casino-style tables games is not in the cards as Gov. Bob Wise enters his final week in office, a spokeswoman for the governor said Monday.

Recent flooding along the Ohio River has distracted both Wise and lawmakers, who are also preparing for the upcoming regular session, spokeswoman Jodi Omear said.

"The need to do it is still there, but the time to call one has run out," she said.

Though he leaves office Jan. 17, Wise had offered to convene a session if enough lawmakers would support a bill to allow the four counties that host racetracks to vote on adding table games at them.
