Governor Corzine: Slot Parlours Deserve a Look26 July 2006TRENTON, New Jersey – As reported by the Press of Atlantic City: "Gov. Jon S. Corzine told casino executives in a private meeting last week that he still opposes adding video lottery terminals at northern New Jersey racetracks, but the idea deserves a look because slot parlors soon will be added in neighboring states. "Corzine revealed his conversation with casino executives during a Tuesday evening interview with WOND radio host Pinky Kravitz. In a response to a question from a caller, Corzine also said he would sign a law that bans smoking on casino gaming floors if the Legislature sends him the bill. "The meeting with casino executives might have remained private but for a press release sent out Tuesday afternoon by Assemblyman Jim Whelan, D-Atlantic, and state Sen. Stephen Sweeney, D-Salem, Cumberland, Gloucester. The lawmakers — who have clashed with the governor in recent weeks over the state budget and union contract issues — released a letter they sent to Corzine reminding him of his past statements opposing slots at New Jersey racetracks.
