Glasgow Launches Gambling Study

GLASGOW, Scotland – As reported by the UK Evening Times: "Fears over the soaring numbers of casinos planned for Glasgow have sparked a full-scale probe into gambling.

"City council bosses have agreed to launch a study into the dangers of addiction.

"The investigation will examine the pros and cons of allowing more massive gaming complexes in the city.

"The move was announced as Scotland's biggest casino opened in Glassford Street – with several more giant complexes planned for the city.

"Opposition leader John Mason feared Glasgow was rushing into giving the go-ahead to six casinos without fully exploring the risk of a surge in gambling addiction.

"…Council leader Charles Gordon said he did not believe that all the casinos which had sought planning permission would see the light of day because of the operation of market forces and that no relaxing of the gaming legislation had yet been passed…"
