Ghiz Drops Learn and Earn Lawsuit

OHIO -- As reported by the Business Journal: "Cincinnati City Councilwoman Leslie Ghiz said Monday that she has dismissed her lawsuit against an organization that wants to bring slot machine gambling to Ohio.

"Ohio Learn and Earn has collected enough signatures to put its initiative on the November ballot, but it has not yet been certified by Secretary of State Ken Blackwell. If passed by voters, slot machines would be able to operate at seven Ohio racetracks, and at two casino sites in Cleveland.

"Ghiz had filed suit in the Hamilton County Court of Common Pleas in July, claiming that the people gathering signatures for the petitions misrepresented their purpose by failing to say that the issue is for the legalization of slot machine gambling in the state.

"She had also criticized Learn and Earn because a casino site for Cincinnati had been dropped from the issue. Ghiz and other City Council members had supported a casino at the Broadway Commons site downtown..."
