Gettysburg Council Supports Casino4 April 2006PENNSYLVANIA – As reported by the Pennsylvania Evening Sun: "The Gettysburg Borough Council agreed to testify in favor of a proposed slots casino in adjacent Straban Township after casino investors sweetened the deal by offering to sign an agreement giving the borough up to $2 million annually. "The testimony will be presented to the state Gaming Control Board at the first of three public hearings on the Gettysburg-area proposal. The board will determine where in the state two stand-alone slots parlor licenses outside of Philadelphia and Pittsburgh are issued. "Opponents say the payout means the council accepted a bribe from Chance Enterprises for positive testimony when it voted 6-3 to speak for it. Supporters say the council is simply taking its slice of the pie. "…On both sides, Gettysburg's status as an important historical site and tourist destination created passionate arguments…" |
