Georgetown County Officials Oppose Casino Boats

GEORGETOWN, South Carolina – As reported by the Myrtle Beach Sun News: "Georgetown County officials solidified their opposition to casino boats Tuesday night by passing third and final reading on an ordinance to ban gambling vessels.

"It was tailored to fit the language dictated by the General Assembly and includes the same guidelines outlined in the original ordinance, Councilman Ron Charlton said. The county used home rule to back the original ordinance to keep casino boats out of local waters.

"…The city of Georgetown is considering a similar ban and will have second reading on an ordinance to keep out casino boats next week.

"The ordinance has gotten the support of most City Council members and Mayor Lynn Wood Wilson.

"The ordinances are up for consideration because the General Assembly recently gave counties and municipalities the choice on whether to ban casino boats…"
