Garden Isle hosts charity poker run

HANCOCK COUNTY, Mississippi -- (PRESS RELEASE) -- The Garden Isles Community Association, local businesses and countless others within the community are joining together to raise money for the Make A Wish Foundation. The foundation has four children registered from Hancock County including three three-year "special needs" children. The goal is to make these children's special "wishes" come true. Everyone throughout the community will have an opportunity to help during the two month campaign.

"If there is anyway to help these children realize their dream, we want to make it happen for them, but we need everyone's help," said Shelly M. Moses, Regional Director for Make a Wish.

Fundraising events include a huge yard sale Saturday August 9, on the corner of Highway 90 and Highway 603 at The Coast Inn parking lot. The sale will begin at 7:00 a.m. "We hope to sell tools, toys, TV's, appliances, art work, clothes, bicycles, fishing and books, furniture and so much more," said Rebecca Almon, an organizer from the Garden Isles Home Owners Assn. Large crowds are expected. So come early!

The public is invited to participate in a number of ways. In preparation of the "parking lot sale," new or used donations items are welcome. Call 228-641-1441 or 228-323-1413 for further information.

Excitement is growing regarding the final event for Garden Isle's first "Make A Wish Charity Poker Run" to be held on Sat. Sept 13 from 11 am 'til 5 pm. This event will be the final fund-raising event, assuring that these children's wishes can come true. Five "stops" are set for the "poker run," with the finale being held at the Bay-Waveland Yacht Club. Live and silent auctions are scheduled. Tickets per "5-card hand" are $50 each, and are tax deductible. All contributions are guaranteed to go to the Make A Wish Foundation.
