Gans kids receive school supplies from Cherokee casinos16 September 2013GANS, Okla. -- (PRESS RELEASE) -– Employees from Cherokee Casino - Sallisaw and Cherokee Casino - Roland recently visited Gans Public Schools with numerous boxes of school supplies, hoping to relieve some of the stress the back-to-school season can bring to rural area families. Nearly 200 supplies, including notebooks, pencils, crayons and markers, were collected during a supply drive at Cherokee Casino Sallisaw and Cherokee Casino Roland. "The parents, teachers and students appreciate everything," said Larry Calloway, superintendent of Gans Public Schools. "Parents provide everything they can, but teachers often spend their own money. We use a lot of stuff. Donations like this help make things equal for the kids at school. It's nice to be able to give something to the students as a whole." The items, purchased by employees and grouped by category before being delivered to Gans, will be distributed among the students at the school. "We are proud to assist our local schools with additional supplies, so that no child is without the tools needed to learn," said Tara Vest, community impact team captain and customer service administrator for Cherokee Casino Roland. "Our team has friends and family that live in Gans or send their children there for school. To be able to make an impact this close to home means a lot to them. Making sure our neighbors are taken care of is important." |
