Gaming Plan Could Help Kansas County27 June 2005KANSAS – As reported by the Leavenworth Times: "An area senator is supporting a gaming proposal that he says could share the wealth with Leavenworth County. "Sen. Mark Gilstrap, D-Kansas City, Kan., said Wednesday he thought the idea of helping contiguous counties on the gaming is 'gaining some support.' "…He's sure Gov. Kathleen Sebelius' proposal for five 'destination casinos' as a partial means of raising education funding won't go anywhere during the special session. "But there are two gaming proposals on the table. "One, which he supports, would allow casinos in Wyandotte and Crawford counties, as well as slots in some of the state's pari-mutuel tracks. "…The second proposal would allow casinos in Wyandotte and Crawford counties, but no slots at racetracks or the possibility for expanded gaming in other counties. "Gilstrap supports the first proposal and an amendment that would allow contiguous counties to benefit…" |
