Gaming Helps Boost Macau's GDP10 December 2003MACAU – As reported by the Ponto Final: "Macau's gross domestic produce rises 24.6 per cent in third quarter, namely thanks to strong growth in gaming revenue and gross fixed capital formation "Macau's expenditure-based gross domestic product grew 24.6 per cent in the third quarter on the same period last year, the Macau Statistics and Census Bureau said on Wednesday. "The bureau attributed the massive growth mainly to a 43 per cent rise in revenue from gaming businesses, and a 68.3 per cent increase in gross fixed capital formation. "…According to readjusted figures, Macau's GDP fell 1.3 per cent in the second quarter, when the former Portuguese enclave's economy, namely its tourism and casinos, was affected by the outbreak of SARS in its neighbouring regions, namely the mainland Hong Kong and Taiwan. Macau's GDP grew 16.9 per cent in the first quarter, according to the readjusted figures…" |
