Gaming Board Director Resigns

10 January 2005

Las Vegas Sun

SANTA FE, New Mexico -- The director of the state Gaming Control Board has resigned from the job.

Brett Woods is to leave the $85,000-a-year position on Friday, according to deputy executive director Greg Saunders.

Saunders did not provide a reason for Woods' resignation from the position directing the state agency that oversees part of the gambling industry in New Mexico.

The governor did not ask Woods to resign, said Billy Sparks, a spokesman for Gov. Bill Richardson.

Saunders said he will serve as interim director until a permanent replacement for Woods is selected.

The board has about 60 employees and oversees slot-machine gambling at nontribal horse racetracks and casinos and fraternal clubs. It also has some oversight of tribal casinos.
