GameTech Fires 12 workers at Reno Offices

RENO, Nevada -- As reported by the Las Vegas Review Journal: "GameTech International, the Reno-based supplier of electronic bingo equipment, Thursday laid off 12 workers, about half of them engineers.

"The workers were not given prior notice of the pink slips, but a company representative said they were given unspecified severance packages and assistance in finding new jobs.

"GameTech employs about 270 people around the country, with 140 to 150 at its Reno headquarters. It has regional offices in Cleveland and Dallas, with representatives in 35 states.

"'Basically we took a look at the organization and decided we wanted to reduce some layers and focus on improving customer services,' said Cory Klerk, GameTech's chief financial officer. 'These are the changes we felt were necessary.'

"...GameTech designs, develops and markets interactive electronic bingo player terminals and back-office management systems. It markets portable terminals that can be played anywhere within a bingo hall, and fixed-base systems with light pen- or touchscreen-activated monitors..."
