Game Site Targets Women4 April 2005UNITED KINGDOM – (PRESS RELEASE) -- A local student is set to be a hit with the ladies this Spring after releasing a range of online games targeted specifically at women. Gavin Blowman, 27, originally from Yorkshire, co-owns online gaming website Jackpotty.com and says that more and more women are now gambling online. The popularity of games based on popular TV shows like 'I'm a Celebrity' have led to women dominating what was traditionally a male market. Gavin said: 'Games like blackjack and roulette are still more popular with men but women make up 55 percent of the 'soft-gaming' market in the UK and the majority of our members are female. We've had a great response to games like 'What a Girl Wants' and the prizes are the type of thing most women enjoy, like spa weekends and shopping vouchers.' Membership of Jackpotty.com has grown to over 300,000 and it was recently voted as one of the top ten websites of 2004. The second year Media Production student has worked on Jackpotty.com for three and a half years and also owns the search engine Fush.com. Gavin said: 'Starting the websites is the hardest part because there are so many out there, it's hard to get yours noticed. Eventually though, if they're good enough, they start to promote themselves through word of mouth.' Before coming to Sunderland University, Gavin worked as a graphic designer since leaving school. Now he balances writing essays with running his business and working part-time for a design agency. He said: 'Even though I'm a student now, I'm used to the early mornings and long days and I like to keep myself busy. It's not just a job, it's a hobby and it keeps me on my toes!.'
