Gambling, Other Bills Offered

PIERRE, South Dakota -- As reported by the Associated Press: "Several gambling bills were offered Monday in the state Legislature, including one that would legalize Texas Hold 'em poker tournaments in some places.

"...SB191, introduced by Sen. Brock Greenfield, R-Clark, would allow card tournaments to be run by charitable groups, such as veterans, fraternal, civic and religious organizations.

"Bingo has long been a mainstay for many of those groups, but Greenfield said the game is losing favor. Card tournaments could perk up finances for groups that do a lot for their communities, he said..."
