Gambling Foes Push for Alcohol Ban

WASHINGTON – As reported by the Seattle Times: "A group opposing a cardroom in Kingsgate has stepped up its efforts to block the flow of alcohol to the proposed casino.

"The group, Stop Neighborhood Casinos, last week submitted 1,981 signatures on a petition to state lawmakers and the state's Liquor Control Board asking that the Sno-King Amateur Hockey Association's application for a liquor license be denied.

"The hope is that plans for the cardroom would be dropped, said Brad Roetcisoender, a resident who is involved with Stop Neighborhood Casinos.

"…But the hockey association president, Steve Cole, yesterday said the effort won't deter the association. 'The casino group has already signed a 26-year lease and has spent half a million in construction, doing demolition and the parking lot,' Cole said…"
