Gambling firms forced to pay £19million

As reported by the Daily Mail: "British gambling firms will be forced to pay a £19million levy towards tackling soaring levels of gambling addiction.

"Ministers have put plans in motion to impose a statutory fee on gambling companies from April next year.

"The move came after the industry failed to agree a voluntary scheme.

"The gambling firms will have to contribute £19million over three years towards education and research into problem gambling and the treatment of addiction.

"A report by the Gambling Commission, the industry watchdog, yesterday found that the current arrangements are not working..."
