Gambling Embezzler Sentenced to Jail

AUSTRALIA – As reported by the Australian News Interactive: "A Melbourne payroll officer who stole more than $2.4 million (US$1.8 million) to fuel a gambling addiction will spend at least two years in jail.

"Vince Steven Marinkovic, 33, of Altona North, admitted siphoning 300 payments into his bank account over seven years while in charge of the payroll at Brooklyn paint manufacturing firm Jotun.

"…The court heard Marinkovic stole on an ad-hoc basis, kept no record of the theft and was surprised when police told him how much he had taken.

"…While addiction was a mitigating factor, Judge Punshon said a deterrence was needed for the growing number of people coming before court on gambling-related theft charges…"
