Gambling Charges Against Poker Tournament Dropped

ST. CLOUD, Minnesota – As reported by the Associated Press: "…Stearns County Attorney Janelle Kendall said she would not bring illegal gambling charges against the man who put on Texas Hold'em tournaments at a local bowling alley.

"State gambling enforcement agents raided the poker tournament at Granite Bowl in July and detained more than 40 people.

"Granite Bowl owner Dave Bischoff said Wednesday that he was happy with the decision, but said it was too early to know whether the tournaments will resume.

"…Meanwhile, a local legislator reaffirmed his commitment to add the popular poker game to a list of other games exempt from state gambling laws.

"The type of tournament Bischoff sponsored didn't produce a clear violation of gambling laws, Kendall said Wednesday…"
